Adapting to a New World Order
In April 2023 the IMF stated that China will become the world’s largest economy within 5 years. America’s place at the top is coming to an end and the economies of other developing nations are catching up to the world leaders rapidly. How is your business positioned to adapt to that new reality?
Consumer behavior is often driven by the human desire to communicate status and wealth. But the status symbols of the new generations are very different from those of prior generations. Increasingly status is shown not by material possessions but by political and cultural alignment. By time and flexibility rather than money. By an online profile and persona rather than a real-life one.
Every generation of leaders and workers wants to make an impact and do things differently. But in reality, there are very few new ideas and most new ideas are a rebranding of old ones, even in technology. So, make sure that while you are chasing the latest trend, you don’t also throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Most US business economic models are predicated on an assumption of free overtime. However, newer generations of workers and leaders are prioritizing family and mental health and refuse to work free overtime, even if that means their careers will stall. For them, it’s not worth it.
